last time I had a bsod with a realtek audio driver was several years ago with versions 7203 to 7324 on a sony vaio laptop
(but that turned out to be either a software conflict between an realtek audio driver and the touchpad driver OR a malfunctioning hard drive that eventually failed a year later and was replaced; after HDD replacement I never got any BSODs with any Realtek HDA driver version).

I didn't have any bsods with the realtek audio drivers on other machines - just with that Sony laptop a few times

Unofficial Realtek UAD Generic 6.0.8888.1
Due to Realtek moving HDXRT.inf and HDXRTSST.inf hashes from hdxrt.cat to hdxrtu.cat in 6.0.8825.1 and the absence of a hdxrtu.cat copy for current version, it wasn't possible to make a Realtek UAD Generic package for old systems that is 100% WHQL compliant. To workaround this setup installs latest WHQL compliant codec component (version 6.0.8856.1) with hardware support application, audio effects and service components taken from latest version and then a force updater is used to replace the old codec component (RTKVHD64.sys and RTAIODAT.DAT) with its latest version and perform appropriate patching.

Due to absence of valid and updated copies of HDXRT.inf, HDXRTSST.inf and HDX_GenericExt_RTK.inf (or a renamed copy it), new hardware IDs introduced since 6.0.8825.1 are not supported.

The previous version, 8886, not only gave a BSOD, but also screwed Windows so bad I had to reinstall (BSOD at boot when entering windows, with the onboard sound activated in BIOS, black screen at boot in windows with the onboard sound disabled in BIOS).
Something is wrong with that version, for sure.

Wow. Luckily the 2 attempts I made with 8886, my Windows still booted normally after the BSOD. I went back to 8885 OK. So you're saying 8888 installed normally, I hope?
